Learn how be prepared, and how to respond to a hurricane watch or warning
June through August is the hurricane season. Therefore, the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay recommends that the community become familiar with hurricane watch and warning messages and plan ahead to reduce the chances of injury or major property damage. A hurricane watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for a hurricane to impact a specific geographic area within 36 hours. A warning is issued when hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours or less.

Two Weeks of Humanitarianism stories
Another cool story of kindness was selected to be published to our blog. Cindy, from Boston Latin School, volunteered at the Kidney Walk at Franklin Park Zoo. "I greeted people who were doing the walk and passed out lunch. It was really fun, and I got to see many animals at the zoo! Volunteering at this fundraiser really inspired me to want to help out others more. Next year, I definitely want to walk and raise money for people with kidney diseases!", she wrote.

We celebrate International Red Cross today!
Today, the Red Cross societies from all around the globe celebrate the birth of the International Red Cross and the founder Henry Dunant. Motivated by his experiences during the Battle of Solferino in 1859, Henry Dunant began to advocate for the humane treatment of the sick and wounded during wartime. Now, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is comprised of more than 97 million staff, volunteers and members and assists more than 277 million people worldwide.
The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay is a part of that global movement and works on connecting and reuniting families with loved ones locally through International Social Services. To know more the American Red Cross of Mass and how you can get involved, visit our website www.bostonredcross.org.

Last night, Joyce Hampers, owner of EMERGE Spa & Salon, and her talented team of award-winning professionals received guests to enjoy EMERGE for a very special evening filled with pampering and stylish surprises! From hair to make-up to fingertips, it was a fun and relaxing evening designed to express our sincere appreciation to American Red Cross of Mass Bay partners and friends. A fashionable treat was the informal modeling of the newest collection of designs by Boston's own Denise Hajjar.
